Catechesis of the Good Shepherd |
Our Catechists:
- Our CGS catechists (teachers) have approximately 100 hours of training.
- We always have at least two adults in the room, even if only one has the CGS training.
- All adults working with the children have had their Virtus training.
Class size:
We work very hard to limit the class size to no more than 15 children per session. |
 |
Ages:
At this time we can only take children 3-6 years old. (We do have a catechist working on her 6-9 year old training.)
Class sessions:
Classes run from mid-September through mid-May and are an hour to an hour and a half long. (We usually begin with an hour and get a little longer as the year progresses.)
At this time we only have one catechist available to teach, therefore we are limited to one class session this year. |

What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd?
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of the child. It is rooted in Sacred Scripture, liturgy, and the educational philosophy and method of Maria Montessori and Sophia Cavaletti.
Spirituality of the Child
First and foremost children have a profound capacity for relationship. They give and receive love. They need love. In the “atrium” we nurture their relationship with God through the Parable of the Good Shepherd.
Our young children are full of energy and love to move. They have to move! In the Atrium the child prays with his/her whole body.
They ask of us the most essential truths of our faith. We give them the very heart of our Catholic faith with presentations on Baptism and Eucharist.
