Here, a woman is lighting a special
candle...It is called a votive candle.

We light one of these candles when we
want to pray a special prayer...especially
when we want to pray for people who are
sick, are dying, or have died.

Fire and light remind us that Jesus is the
Light of the world. Our prayers rise to heaven
like the fire and heat and smoke.

We pray with candles only with our parents, because fire can be dangerous.

This is the altar.

This is where we celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

This is where the priest blesses the bread and the wine, and it becomes the Body and Blood of Jesus.

There is another altar behind this one.
The beautiful box on top of the back altar is called the tabernacle.

This is the lectern.

It is also called the pulpit.

This is where the lectors and the priest read
the Word of God.

We should listen very closely when people read the Word of God from the lectern.

The cross on the front of the lectern is called
the Celtic Cross.

The cross on top of our steeple
Is also a Celtic Cross, and it looks like this one.

Did you know in our church you can find a whale, fish, a turtle, a bunny and a lamb? Yep, they are all in the stained glass window in the south cry room.

This window reminds us of the story of Creation. You can read this story with your family. Look for it in the very front of your Bible. Actually, it is the first story we read in the Bible (Genesis, chapters one and two).

Here are many chairs.

The pews in the back are for the cantor, singers and instrumentalists.

The cantor leads the assembly in song.

The chairs in front are for the priest, altar servers, and others who help us celebrate the Mass.

<-- Click on the chairs, and we'll go back into the sacristy.
